The role of a supervisor can sometimes be misinterpreted within the financial industry. Yes, there is the operational management side of things. But it's also about getting the best out of your team. If your team are working at their absolute best, this will likely reduce the level of risk the firm is exposed to. However, a really successful supervisor involves the 'soft and fluffy' skills which can be quite hard to enact.

Within this module, we will demystify the role of a supervisor and show what is required from them, as well as going over the practical elements of supervisor competencies and the different leadership methods.

This module is defined by four units. They are:

  • The role of a supervisor
  • Supervision & regulation
  • Supervisor competencies & methods of supervision
  • Leadership & behaviour styles

During this module, you will:

  • Explore the regulations regarding supervision, from an adviser and compliance standpoint.
  • Learn the role of a supervisor, their duties, and how they can be more effective in their role.
  • Understand the different styles of leadership and learning styles and different theories of management.
  • Consider how supervision works at your firm, and how this could be made more effective.
